Canoeing along The New River - a relaxing day in the mountains
The New River in NC
A National Scenic River and one of the oldest rivers in North America.

The New River offers good bass fishing, trout streams, excellent birding and inspiring mountain scenery.  Four areas with canoe access or walking access to the New River make up more than 2,200 acres of New River State Park and provide spots for canoeing, picnicking and fishing.
You can hike to the summit at approximately 5,000 feet, have a picnic, and enjoy the views into three states from one of the overlooks.

Tip:  Go off of the gravel and paved trail for better trails and views.

You will enjoy this winding road with overlooks, hiking trails and nature truly preserved and honored.  Anytime you get a chance, take the Parkway to your destination.  Take a look at the Mileposts for gas, hikes, picnics, and views.   See the additional links for more tips.
